Communications system for the commercial marine
Mazu Marine tablet app gives boat navigators easy access to powerful communication and navigation functionalities. Mazu connects seamlessly with SkyMate mSeries system to provide reliable satellite access from anywhere in the world.
Origins of the name comes from asian legends; Mazu being considered as a sea goddess. She was thought to roam the seas, protecting her believers through miraculous interventions.
The app is used for trip planification and real-time navigation, under different weather conditions. Lots of features had to be developed for the first version; I proposed an experience developed around the map system. A complete set of icons were also created to support the interface navigation.
My mandate consisted on developing the user experience of the platform, elaborating the art direction and branding, creating the user interfaces as well as prototyping and user testing.
The app won the Pittman Innovation Award (Electronics) as well as the Best New Electronics Product at the International Boat Show.
